First woke up to my mother’s surprise (very sweet:), then at school after first period, I received a poem from someone that has liked me for quite a while (checked my Facebook- it began in 2010)…
He is very persistent, and has asked me to go out on a date with him four times total. I have politely declined each time because he is not interested in being my friend, our personalities conflict with one another, and we have different interests and views. Plus, I’m not attracted to him, which I believe plays a minor role. I don’t believe it’s right for me to date someone that I am not truly interested in or attracted to because that would be considered “leading somebody on” (- a terrible thing to do).
At first, I was flattered for being recognized (because honestly, who enjoys going unnoticed on a day meant for showing one’s affection. I know, it’s silly, but still… it seemed nice.) Then I read the letter…
and I don’t know if it’s wrong to post this, but he doesn’t know about my blog, I don’t plan on holding on to the note for a long time, and it’s something that I wouldn’t mind remembering because it is an interesting story.
Here is what it says:
“Yours
I see you have doubts So let me help you understand That I can be your man
As your soldier I will defend you, Fight for you, And protect you with all that I am; Every ounce of strength, Every drop of blood, Down to the last breath I would fight to the death for you
As your lover, I will always meet your needs, To support you And give to you all your wants, To be with you all your days And meet your every desire
As your friend, I will be there for you, To advise you in your actions And assist you in your plans; To give you a shoulder to cry on, To council your problems, And to make you smile
As a man I give you my word To never leave your side; Forevermore I swear this oath, Until the moment you release me Or Death takes me”
So.
Honestly, this is nice… If I was dating him for a couple years or something of the sort but he seldom ever speaks to me and I made it quite clear that I won’t date him. Last time I told him no he wouldn’t listen. Still won’t take no for an answer.
So I avoided speaking to him after reading the letter today, but tomorrow he will be probably asking me about this note.
What do I even say to him? I don’t want to hurt his feelings, but this is really extreme. I have gently let him down before, and still.. this.
Hallie pointed out that i’m going to have to talk to him about it because he might keep this up while i’m in college. (Yes….. I found out that he is going to the same college as me. What are the chances…)
So. Very interesting Valentine’s Day…..
On a lighter note, my friends and I had our comment posted in the school newspaper about our opinion of Valentine’s Day. Of course we were joking (to a degree - I do believe that love should be celebrated, but a set day isn’t necessary.. it’s such an excuse to receive gifts) but I thought this was fantastic.
Also, on my way home, I bought my little sister a balloon and a box of cookie mix I’ll be making for my family tonight. I think they’ll like the little gifts.
Very.. very interesting Valentines Day..
